ITS FINALLY BACK!

HELLO READER. So, not sure if you noticed but I havent done a blog post since septmber... I think? ANYWAYS! That reason Is because we didn't meet the criteria for posting on blogger.   Most people probably would'nt care and just continue posting but since my school is part of  manaiakalani  we have to follow the rules. Instead we decided to make our own website which we could do blogs on. Mr A made a seperate website where it gives links to all our blogs. My blog hadnt had much on it yet but I'll show you what it looks like.

I know it doesn't have much but I was gonna embed a slide with the writing onto the picture of the egg(I don't know why I put the egg there I was just hungry and It's temporary. This was also help because we got to practice using sites! It was pretty fun using sites for once and being able to create our OWN! Have you ever used sites? And when google changed it to 13+, if you're under 13 did you listen or not? And if you did what did you do instead?

SCHOOLS COMING BACK!

Ok, so we all know about Covid. And how lockdown is probably one of the most boring things, we have to social distance and do online school etc. WELL! Not too long ago New Zealand went back into level 4! We were one of the first countries to get out of lockdown last year and had such a long and peaceful time without it. Then.. the new Delta variant walked in. We still hadn't had a lot of cases at first but now things have changed.. WELL! GUESS WHAT? MOST OF NEW ZEALAND IS IN LEVEL 2 NOW AND ON THURSDAY MOST OF US ARE GOING BACK TO SCHOOL!

When we were in level 3, most people got to go back to work and for the kids who weren't old enough to look after themselves and stay home alone could go to bubble school, which is just normal school except there's not a lot of you, your all in each others bubble, and your teachers are the principal and the person who sits at the front desk in the office, and a bit more. Or at least that's what It's like at our school.

I'm really excited, I thought lockdown would have been WAY different! I don't like it though. Online school is so hard and boring, it's hard to work. I get easily distracted and I've not been doing as much work as I normally do because when I'm at home I don't really feel like doing work so I don't get as much as I should have done, I STILL DO WORK THOUGH! But what I'm trying to say is that I really need to go back to school. Hopefully the days go quicker and I can get myself into focusing more.

Anyways, Covid? Can you PLEASE just leave us alone, you're kinda annoying. I'm asking you very nicely, so would you please go away? Thank you.

What's your favorite and least favorite thing about lockdown? And what do you like more, Online school or normal school? Thanks for taking your time to read my blog.

LOCKDOWN IS BACK

On Tuesday last week before school ended my teacher said that he had just gotten a notification saying that there was a new case of Covid in Auckland. Tonight on the news the council would have a meeting deciding whether or not we are going into lockdown again. Later that night when I was sitting on the couch watching youtube my parents turned the news on. A little later my mum's mouth dropped and she looked at me, I asked her what had happened and then I found out we are in level 4 lockdown for 3 days and possibly more. When I texted one of my group chats saying that we were in lockdown again, not all of them believed it and when they found out the truth everyone started panicking. I was pretty mad because I didn't didn't like lockdown that much but the others were a bit more disappointed and scared than me. Since google has updated their meets we didn't know how to use it because we hadn't practiced yet which meant we didn't have to do online school which I was happy about because I forgot my maths book and a bunch of other things and whenever I need help I can't just go ask the teacher because he might be with another group. I still have to do homework though but I'm not mad about it.

Mum went for a big shop after she found out and my sister's friend Alyssa sent my sister a photo of the huge line and mum forgot how big it was last time. Before she left she said if we wanted or needed anything we could just text her and she would get it for us, even just snacks. I texted her some of the things I wanted and surprisingly she got all of them and also the right ones! I was super happy.

The next day was our first day back in Lockdown. It was really annoying because it was a sunny day so it was all hot and then dad told me to take Molly for a walk. She was so excited before we left and to make her go longer I grabbed a treat, but after she ate it we went only a tiny bit longer then she stopped and gave me THAT look. So we started going back. We hadn't even gone that long and then when we were just about home she started sniffing around at this house that was still getting built so I had to try and get her to come over. I was looking forward to getting outside for once but sadly it didn't last long.

In the lounge there's this thing where my dad and Olivia put a bike on this little stand thing and then you can basically go for a bike ride without going anywhere so I thought It was something I could actually do In lockdown. Dad said I could try it out and I surprisingly liked it. I spent a bunch of that day getting on and off it, and even better, you can practice biking with no hands! Before I knew it mum had arrived home.

After dinner I went into my room and started doing what I usually do, text and spam my friends, play video games, watch youtube, netflix and things like that. I fell asleep and when I woke up I got up and went on youtube. A bit later I made breakfast and started doing homework. It's kinda hard doing homework when your friends keep on spamming you, if you don't know what spamming means it's when you text the same person over and over again a lot of times.

My group chat started texting me and when I told them I was doing homework they were like, "WHAT!? It's too early! Imma just go on maths whizz and then back onto youtube!" and stuff like that, then the friend that said that ended up asking me and Liam for help, it was only on one question and it was pretty easy. I'm surprised she didn't know how to do it.

I accidentally forgot to write on some of the days, but right now it's Monday, I'm really happy because mum has a day off today! Also because It's my birthday in 3 days. It's pretty sad that it'll be in lockdown on my birthday and my mums working on my birthday but that's ok! Basically my mum works as a lab scientist in the greymouth hospital and the lab team has been split up into groups. So one day my mum works the next she doesn't, then she works again and it just goes on like that.

Today we get to see if we are gonna stay in level 4 or if we are going into level 3, and tomorrow is the day that it gets renewed. Welp, we'll have to wait and see!

For school I've been doing my maths and E-book. A few weeks before lockdown we got minecraft education and Mr A gave us a few tasks. 1 was to make a building with a 2500 perimeter, the other was to make our school but in minecraft, so I've also been working on the school, because the perimeter one is a bit hard. I've also been working on a minecraft McDonalds! I want to turn that world into a whole city! But I need more places. For some reason It won't let me screenshot McDonalds but that's ok.

Today Online class has started, even though we didn’t know how to properly use it we still had it. We only had 2 meets today and the last one was one that you could choose to be on or not. To make sure that we were here Mr A put out a form on the learning site and if we were there we could fill it out. At the last meet I showed Mr A and some of my classmates my McDonalds! I think they liked it, Mr A loved it though!

Today was wacky hat day. Mr A had decided to put a form on the learning site and we can choose whose mask was the best because he forgot to do it in the meeting and when he realized some people had already left. I kept on having to get up because my cats were being annoying and wanting me to feed them, let them in/out and then they started fighting so I kept turning my camera off.

Martin has another appointment today for his thumb. Since mum's working and dads taking nhim it's just me and Olivia for a few hours.

Now my birthday is only 2 days away! Last night I waited till midnight and as soon as the date turned to the 24th I started jumping around and getting all excited. That night I was also on call with Shae! I was really happy about that because me and Shae don’t call a lot because my mic on my phone doesn’t work that well on call and on my tablet the internet always cuts out, so me and Shae were just looking at my weird old photos, doing faceplants, playing minecraft, being weird and just stuff like that. All of a sudden Amber found her way onto the call and she didn’t wanna leave and since me and Shae just wanted some time to just us two we just pretended we made a new meet and then she left. We were laughing so hard and it was super funny!

Lockdown hasn’t been too bad for me! But I REALLY wanna go back to school. I miss my friends and since a lot of them are year 6s I don’t have much longer with them, I have a bad feeling about next year, sometimes I just wish I was year 6, I wanna spend more time with Lizzie, Cooper and a lot of others. Me and Liam are starting to become friends, he’s actually really funny especially when he does his british or scottish accent.

Yesterday I fell asleep as soon as school ended. I was so tired and was asleep for an hour and a half! Then me and mum took Molly for a walk around the racecourse, because we live really close to it. Then I went on call again with Shae and she started roleplaying in minecraft! She was so funny.

Wednesday 25th

Today was wacky shirt day, I didn’t really feel like looking for a wacky shirt so I just used the mint green spongebob sweater Taylor got me as an early birthday present! I honestly take it almost everywhere. Anyways it was pretty funny because the whole class went on greenscreen mode on the google meet and they all put their background as the galaxy LOL! And just before we left I got really embarrassed because Xanthe asked if I was excited for our birthday tomorrow, and I didn’t want the class to know but most people had already left when she asked and I don’t think anyone heard it.

Today was my birthday! Mr Abbott found out and sang me happy birthday, I was super embarrassed. It was also pet day but since I couldn’t find the cats and Molly was sleeping so I couldn’t show them.

I forgot to write but it's been 4 days since my birthday. On Friday we had Mrs Swinburn and since it was daffodil day I drew a daffodil. She also made us a Bingo that we could fill out which was pretty cool. It has stuff that you do in lockdown and you can fill the ones you have done out and try to get them all done!

Anyways todays been kind of boring so far, I’m starting to get really tired of lockdown. I just wanna get back to school, see my friends and not do online school. I don’t like online school as much as I thought I would. It's just boring and I get really tired. I hope soon we can finally go back to school, I wouldn’t even care if I had to wear a mask and gloves and everything. I would honestly rather spend the weekend at school instead of being stuck in lockdown.

Huh? Oh! You're still here? Wow, congrats! You made it to the end. Thanks so much for taking your time to read my blog post. I wish I had made it shorter but I didn’t feel like it. Are you in lockdown? If you are, were you surprised when we first went into lockdown, and what's your favourite thing about it?

THE OLYMPICS HAS COME AGAIN!!!

Last week the 2020 Olympics had started. Lisa Carrington, a famous Olympian has attended the Olympics again. She is participating in the rowing and yesterday she did two huge races that were only an hour apart. Last weeks work was based off of the Olympics, we all had to do a slide on our Olympian, this is mine!

I couldn't put in much but I still think I did a good job. Today shes doing another race so its possible for her to win another medal. Have you been watching the Olympics and do you have a favourite Olympian?

Bob

This week we have started writing a letter, but not just any normal letter! A letter to the future me! Ever heard of a time capsule? Well, the letter we are writing is going to go in the capsule and in about 50 years some people will dig it up and try to find us and if they succeed we get our letter and we can read it. The reason we did this is because we thought it'd be really cool if in 50 years we get a letter and we get to see what things used to go on when we were 9, 10 or 11. First we had to put in some informaation about us to help find us, then we started writing. I had to block out some of my information because thats private and im not done yet but here is part of my letter!

When we are done with our script we write it on real paper and then we are gonna put all the letters into a box or a cylinder with some other stuff! I really like doing this because I get to write about my life and fun things we have done! Have you ever thought of doing a time capsule or a letter to the future? If you havent do you think you ever will? Thank you for spending your time to read my post!

Flax Art!

This week is the Matariki week for our class/school. Matariki is a star cluster. The maori people use it as a sign for their new year. People say that if you can see the matariki stars clearly it's going to be a good year. To celebrate we have decided to make Harakeke, which is the Maori name for flax, mats and baskets, and on  Friday we are going to have a free sausage sizzle and put them on either our Harakeke mat or basket. We used the weaving technique to do so for both. The Harakeke basket is a bit more complicated in my opinion but thats just me and I ended up messing up a lot and I made mine the wrong way but it still looks ok!

It curled up and got worse through the night and doesn't look too good from the front but it's still pretty good but I didn't finish my mat. I got a bit of help from my friend Cooper. I'm happy that I've now learnt how to weave and make both a mat and basketout of Harakeke. Have you ever tried weaving? And if you have, did you like doing it and would you do it again? Thank you for taking your time to read my blog!

Emilly Carr Art

This term Mrs Swinburn (our art teacher) told us that we would be doing art on Emily Carr. Emily Carr was a very famous canadian artist back in the 1900s and sadly passed away on the second of March 1945. The art we are doing is based off the trees she used to paint. First we did a practice and they turned out really well. For our practice we spread newspaper over the desks, put a few blank peices of paper down and started painting. I painted the trunk first and then the leaves. It took a bit of time till I finished but it still look's really cool. Here was my finished product.
I think it looks better from afar but I still really like it. Then we made a plan for our other tree. We picked 2-3 colours, picked a sponge and then started making our backgrounds. I did orange, yellow and bright red. Soon after we started our tree. At first I was starting to think it looked bad but the more I did the more I liked it. Finally I was done. Heres my finished product, it's not as good as I expected but still super cool!

We added our Initails and we were finished! Have you ever done art inspired by Emily or a different artist? And how do you think I could've made it better?

Is It Real? ^_^

This week we have been learning about how to tell if a website is true or fake. Our main topic was the tree octopus! The tree octopus is a hoax.(A hoax is a made up thing to trick people and stuff like that) Lots of people have made websites about the Tree Octopus, some saying that it is a hoax, but a bunch of people don't say that. anyways, first off, octopi cannot breath out of water. SECOND! There isn't such thing as the word, "octopuses". It is actually called, "octopi". THIRD! if a website has a bunch of spelling mistakes or missing punctuation, it may not be true. Fourth is that most true websites have an email, some information about them or how to contact them and stuff like that. There's a lot more but that's just pretty boring stuff, we read a few articles, a story and made a poster.
Here's mine so far!

The next thing I did was a fake animal.
Here it is!

His name is Jeffery. He's "ToAtAlLy ReAl". The way I made him was I got up a blank google draw and searched up Cat, Bird and Giraffe by pressing, CTRL, SHIFT, ALT and I all at the same time. Then I took a screenshot of the pictures I wanted and went onto Remove.BG and got as much of the animal as I needed. for the Giraffe I didn't need to use Remove.BG because I searched up Giraffe png and then double clicked on the picture and cropped it to the right part. There are a few other tasks I need to do but they are pretty boring so I didn't include them. Thank you for using your time to read my blog post. What do YOU think I could've done to make my animal and poster better?

Rocket Challenge!

Last year we started doing rocket challenges with plastic bottles. A bunch of schools around the world has been competing in this, but last year I wasn't in Kereru, so I couldn't participate. But this year we are doing it again! Now that I am in Kereru I can participate. On Wednesday we launched a rocket belonging to Lincoln. When Lincoln shot his rocket off it shot straight up, It was spinning in a really cool way as well, It went so high I thought if it was a bit bigger it might not have came down for at least 5 minutes but I'm not sure. Here Is the video of Lincolns rocket, just so you know It might be a bit hard to see the actual rocket but It's still cool,

I actually helped Lincoln put the sand in the bottle and while I was helping I was kinda thinking that since it had sand in it it would be too heavy but instead it was just right! After we shot Lincolns rocket we shot it again, but the rocket broke a bit and it had a burn on the end. I have and Idea on how I'm gonna do mine and if it goes how I wan't it to be I'm going to be very happy. I found out that extending your bottle and putting just enough sand to fill at least 3 quarters of the bottle makes it go better, I think I might mix a tiny bit of water in the extended part of my bottle so that it mixes in with the sand. What kind of things should I do to my rocket so that it goes better?

Hoki History! ^﹏^

Two weeks ago we started a Hoki History website. We all made our own individual websites! Some people did an AMAZING website! I haven’t finished mine yet but I think mine is pretty average though, this is most of our first times making a website, but I think I am doing pretty good for my first time. My website includes a working map, a bit of information, some links to different sites, some pictures, and more,

Here is my site so far,

I'm really excited to see how it turns out, I'm gonna add some videos and some other stuff later but this is it right now, thanks for taking your time to read this blog post. I hope you all enjoyed reading this:)

True Or False?👀

This term we have been doing something super fun for writing! We were doing one true story and one lie. The true story had to be a recount on something we did in the holidays, the lie had to be a fake recount on something we did in the holidays. When we were done we would read out both story's In front of the class and they would try to guess which one was true and which one was fake, I haven't gotten my chance to read mine out yet, but I know I will soon. One of my stories were about me in Christchurch and almost getting hit by a city train and the other one was about me going Ski-ing in Queenstown. Which one do you think is the fake? You can read both my stories now and tell me what you think!

Time for districts! ^_^

Last week on Thursday we went to the Hokitika Westland High School to do athletics. There were lots of sports and fun things to do! I actually thought that Shot-Put and Discuss were some of the things I was the worst at, but somehow I came second in both of them for yr5 girls! I tried my hardest to do as well as I could and now the day after Easter weekend I’ll be going to districts! Last night I told my dad and he told me that he has a really good friend that is great at discuss and might even have one at his house that I can practice with. He can even show me some tips! I’m super excited and really proud of myself. Even if I don’t make it to the West Coasts at least I will still have fun and try my hardest. This is probably the first time I've made it to districts and I’m really happy, even if I’m not as good as others. Do you think I’ll make it to the West Coasts? And if you do, do you think I'll make it to Canterbury? Personally I don’t but I’ll continue to work my hardest. We did do a beach clean up afterwards but I'll save that for another blog post!

Big EyEs!👀

A few days ago we started working on a peer mediation poster! We have never done one that I knew of, and if there was it’d probably look kinda boring. So we decided to make one and take a photo of ourselves and make ourselves have big eyes! We used the app "Pixlr E" to make the big eyes. And clicked Liquify and pressed the enlarge tool

Then we would use “remove.bg” to remove the background, Then insert it into a slide/google draw for a poster! This is mine so far,

It's not that good RIGHT now but It'll get better, well.. hopefully it will! Thank you for spending your time reading this to the end, I will post another blog when its done! If you tried out Pixlr E tell me what you think of it! Also what do you think I should add to my poster?

READING THE WHALES!

This week and some of last week the green reading group have been working on a reading passion project. We chose a topic and then did some research on different sites so that we could get our story, read it, put it into a google slide and then put it into our own words. Me and another girl called Renny chose the same topic, it was whale strands! We didn’t ACTUALLY have to choose our passion, but some of the boys liked hunting so they did that, but another boy likes something else but doesn’t choose that. If we see something we are interested in we can choose it as our topic. I went on lots of different sites and searched up questions on google. Then I put them into my own words and onto the slide. I also put in the links to the sites I went on. It was really fun and cool. Here is a photo of my work and if you want to read it just click on the picture!

What do you think I could improve on with my reading?(if you read the story though it might be a bit hard to read)

CLUED UP KIDS HAS CAME AGAIN! - CLUED UP KERERUIANS!

Last week on Friday we went to the B.B.(boys brigade), hall for C.U.K.(aka clued up kids). We had horse safety, fires, police, safety hazards, train crossing, earthquakes, quad bikes/motorbikes and lastly St Johns.
There were many different schools that came, Kaniere school however were split into two groups because there were so many year 5's and 6's. I was in the red group. At the horse station it had a very calm horse and it also had two girls. One of them I actually knew and recognised straight away. Her name was Isla! They told us about it and then we moved on to the next ones. My favourites would DEFINITELY be the horse station, the fire station, the motorbike/quad bike station and lastly the train crossing station. I don't think a lot of people liked the train crossing part but I did. My absolute favourite was the fire because there was small long tunnel that you had to crawl through and it has some wall type thingies so you had to make sure you went the right way. It was so dark! blacker than black paint. There is so much to tell you but it'd be too long and there is just so much, anyways I really liked it and am excited for next year to do it again!

E.book!

For writing  this week we made an ebook.  We used google slides and wrote the story ourself.  We used pobble365 to get some pictures, and inserted them in when we were done with our writing.
Below is a picture of my recrafted story and below that the original story.  We learnt that we could improve our writing to make it better and more descriptive.

Have you ever recrafted any of your writing to make it better?

Sculpting Clay into a alien monster!!

Today we learn't how to use a really fun app! The app is called "SculptGL" . I LOVED using it and made a funny monster alien bug, I'll name him... JEFFERY! Most of the year six's that were in this class last year knew how to use it. but there are still some year six's from Piwakawaka. This is what Jeffery looks like from the front!

He looks funny doesn't he? But this is just from the front. I have many pictures of him. These are some of the others,

Now that I think of it he is actually really weird.
We used a lot of the tools to make our alien monsters. I mostly used drag, paint, pinch, flatten and brush. I changed the setting up and turned it around to make him look complete and even weirder.
I'm proud of my work but I think I could've done better. What do you
think I could have improved on?
