Flax Art!

This week is the Matariki week for our class/school. Matariki is a star cluster. The maori people use it as a sign for their new year. People say that if you can see the matariki stars clearly it's going to be a good year. To celebrate we have decided to make Harakeke, which is the Maori name for flax, mats and baskets, and on  Friday we are going to have a free sausage sizzle and put them on either our Harakeke mat or basket. We used the weaving technique to do so for both. The Harakeke basket is a bit more complicated in my opinion but thats just me and I ended up messing up a lot and I made mine the wrong way but it still looks ok! 

                                                    

It curled up and got worse through the night and doesn't look too good from the front but it's still pretty good but I didn't finish my mat. I got a bit of help from my friend Cooper. I'm happy that I've now learnt how to weave and make both a mat and basketout of Harakeke. Have you ever tried weaving? And if you have, did you like doing it and would you do it again? Emilly Carr Art

This term Mrs Swinburn (our art teacher) told us that we would be doing art on Emily Carr. Emily Carr was a very famous canadian artist back in the 1900s and sadly passed away on the second of March 1945. The art we are doing is based off the trees she used to paint. First we did a practice and they turned out really well. For our practice we spread newspaper over the desks, put a few blank peices of paper down and started painting. I painted the trunk first and then the leaves. It took a bit of time till I finished but it still look's really cool. Here was my finished product. 

I think it looks better from afar but I still really like it. Then we made a plan for our other tree. We picked 2-3 colours, picked a sponge and then started making our backgrounds. I did orange, yellow and bright red. Soon after we started our tree. At first I was starting to think it looked bad but the more I did the more I liked it. Finally I was done. Heres my finished product, it's not as good as I expected but still super cool!

Sculpting Clay into a alien monster!!

 Today we learn't how to use a really fun app! The app is called "SculptGL" . I LOVED using it and made a funny monster alien bug, I'll name him... JEFFERY! Most of the year six's that were in this class last year knew how to use it. but there are still some year six's from Piwakawaka. This is what Jeffery looks like from the front!

Now that I think of it he is actually really weird.

We used a lot of the tools to make our alien monsters. I mostly used drag, paint, pinch, flatten and brush. I changed the setting up and turned it around to make him look complete and even weirder.

I'm proud of my work but I think I could've done better. What do you

My Helicopter

 Today our class made paper helicopters! We made the helicopters for a reading task, basically we got the idea because on the reading book the persons cat got run over and he turned dead cat into a helicopter! Its pretty funny. All you need is a paper clip, and a strip of paper. Then you fold the strip of paper in half and take out the sides, then you fold them down a little bit to the side like this,

after that you fold the bottom part and it should look like this,

then make the sides go out a bit

After that you slide in the paper clip and it should look like this,

Then you stand up on a chair or something a little bit high and let it drop. Here was my video of me, Haki,  and Xanthe! I went a bit before them by accident but Haki was cheating a bit because he had two paper clips, if you put on two it goes down faster!

My Lockdown Art So Far

Yesterday, we started something called "Lockdown Art", basically it was just a bunch of photos of what you did when you were in quarantine,  you had to get photos from your blog, gallery, or if you have a phone with pictures of what you did in quarantine on it, then you could send them to your chromebooks and then put them in. And if your mum/dad has some photos of things you did they could send them to you, This is mine so far, it has me and my kittens and their big brothers, and it has some pictures from my blog. I'm still adding photos, and still need to do a lot, but also after we are all done, we will make either a circle frame, or a square frame, we will make it like a window so you can open up them and see all the photos, we are working really hard to complete them. Thats all I need to say. Bye!

Art

In the past weeks of Term 4, the hole school started something called "Calender Art". Everybody Had to do it. The theme how I thought of mine was falling into a portal and about to drop to ground.  How we did it was picking two different colours of pastel, before we coloured it in, we drew a tiny circle in the middle and then drew eight lines and two circles in the middle but touching the lines. Then we got our colour of pastels and started to colour in. While we we're colouring the teacher got us to lie on the ground and make it look like we are falling into a portal so she could take the picture.  When that was done she printed them out and then she gave us them so we could cut them out. When we we're done we got ready to glue the pictures on. We did our name, age and class. Our teacher took a picture of our calenders and sent the email so we could put it on our blog. It was so fun. I cant wait to see if we do something like this next year. maybe one day I can do this at home. I loved doing it so much!

I like how there is a rainbow then all these really nice squares and how I am looking at my words.
